ELIZABETH TAYLOR DONATES BUST OF RICHARD BURTON TO THEATRE
IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN TWO DECADES SINCE SHE HAS SEEN HIM, BUT FOR ELIZABETH TAYLOR THE FEELINGS FOR HER 'GREATEST LOVE' RICHARD BURTON HAVE CLEARLY NOT FADED WITH THE PASSING OF TIME. WHEN CONFRONTED WITH A BUST OF HER LATE EX-HUSBAND LAST NIGHT, SHE BEGAN TO WEEP. TAYLOR WAS ATTENDING A GALA EVENING AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE TO MARK THE 60th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROYAL WELSH COLLEGE OF MUSIC AND DRAMA. THE STUNNING LIKENESS OF BURTON WAS MADE TO STAND IN THE FOYER OF A NEW THEATER AT THE COLLEGE IN CARDIFF, WHICH IS TO BE NAMED AFTER HIM. ARRIVING IN A WHEELCHAIR, TAYLOR PRESENTED PRINCE CHARLES WITH THE WORK, SATING: 'RICHARD WOULD HAVE BEEN SO DEEPLY TOUCHED BY THIS GREAT HONOR, AS AM I. IT'S WONDERFUL TO BE HERE AND JOIN IN THIS CELEBRATION, ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS WHO REMEMBER AND RESPECT RICHARD WITH SO MUCH LOVE IN THEIR HEARTS.' SHE BURST INTO TEARS AFTER PRINCE CHARLES REMARKED: 'DO YOU THINK IT'S A GOOD LIKENESS?' 'MARVELLOUS', SHE REPLIED AS SHE DABBED HER EYES. THE PAIR WERE JOINED BY A HOST OF OTHER CELEBRITIES INCLUDING ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER AND DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY. BURTON'S NEPHEW GUY MASTERSON LAST NIGHT SPOKE OF HIS FAMILY'S PRIDE IN THE LATEST HONOR, SAYING: 'THE BURTON FAMILY IS DEEPLY APPRECIATIVE OF THE NAMING OF THIS WONDERFUL THEATER.'
