THE WORLD'S FIRST 'LASAGNA SANDWICH' BY TESCO

TESCO HAS CREATED THE WORLD'S FIRST 'LASAGNA SANDWICH', A NEW 'SNACK' THAT COULD RIVAL THE MOST FATTENING TAKE-AWAY TREATS. THE LASAGNA SANDWICH, PROBABLY MOST SUITABLE AS A TREAT MADE FROM LEFTOVERS AFTER A LATE NIGHT OUT, HAS RECENTLY GONE ON SALE AT TESCO. THE SUPERMARKET CLAIMS THAT THE COLD SANDWICH IS A WORLD FIRST AND HAS BEEN PROMOTING IT AS A HEALTHY OPTION. PROMOTIONAL IMAGES OF THE SANDWICH RELEASED AHEAD OF ITS LAUNCH YESTERDAY SHOWED THE NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE PACKET DISPLAYING JUST 87 CALORIES AND 4.1g OF FAT -- BUT IN REALITY IT HAS 565 CALORIES, AND THE FAT CONTENT IS 26.9g. THE £2.50 SANDWICH IS MADE UP OF 'TWO THICK SLICES OF BREAD AND A FILLING OF DICED BEEF IN A TOMATO AND HERB SAUCE LAYERED WITH COOKED PASTA SHEETS AND A CREAMY CHEDDAR, RICOTTA AND MAYONNAISE DRESSING'. TESCO FOOD DEVELOPER AND SANDWICH CREATOR LAURA FAGAN SAID IT COULD BE EATEN AS A SNACK TO KEEP HUNGER AT BAY. 'WE THINK THE LASAGNA SANDWICH COULD BECOME THE FOOD OF CHOICE FOR ANYONE WANTING A SOLID SNACK BETWEEN MEALS', SHE SAID. 'THE INSPIRATION COMES FROM MY OWN STUDENT DAYS AND HOW CERTAIN FOODS COULD SOMETIMES TASTE MUCH BETTER THE NEXT DAY, SUCH AS PIZZA, LASAGNA AND EVEN CURRY.' TESCO SAID THE IMAGES SENT OUT TO PUBLICATIONS WERE A MOCK-UP AND THAT THE CORRECT NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION IS INCLUDED ON THE PACKS THAT WENT INTO STORES YESTERDAY.
