NEW ZEALAND FASHION DESIGNER INSULTS PRINCESS ROYAL

A NEW ZEALAND FASHION DESIGNER HAS INSULTED PRINCESS ANNE BY CALLING HER 'BORING AS BAT ****' AND LIKENING HER HAIRSTYLE TO 'A COTTAGE LOAF'. BRITISH-BORN DENISE L'ESTRANGE-CORBET MET THE PRINCESS AT A PRIVATE COCKTAIL RECEPTION IN AUCKLAND LAST WEEK. THE PRINCESS WAS ON A LOW-KEY VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND AND WAS THE GUEST OF HONOR AT THE PARTY, HELD TO LAUNCH A NEW CAMPAIGN FOR THE COUNTRY'S BRANCH OF SAVE THE CHILDREN. THE PRINCESS HAS BEEN PRESIDENT OF THE CHARITY SINCE 1970. BUT THE NEW ZEALAND MEDIA, AND HER FELLOW GUESTS, GAVE HER A COOL RECEPTION. THE NEW ZEALAND HERALD SCOFFED AT THE PRINCESS'S OUTFITS, REPORTING THAT SHE WORE 'AN ILL-FITTING JACKET IN AN UNFLATTERING SHADE OF NEON TANGERINE, WITH A MATRONLY HAIR-BUN SET SO RIGID IT APPEARED LIKE A BERET'. THE REPORT BY THE PAPER'S DIARIST ALSO TOOK AIM AT THE PRINCESS ROYAL'S HEIGHT. 'CAROL HIRSCHFELD, WHO MC'd THE EVENT, CHOSE KITTEN HEELS SO AS TO AVOID TOWERING OVER THE PRINCESS. THAT DIDN'T WORK', IT SAID. BUT IT WAS L'ESTRANGE-CORBET WHO DELIVERED THE MOST SCATHING INSULT. 'SHE WAS AS BORING AS ******* BAT ****, IS WHAT SHE WAS', SHE REPORTEDLY TOLD THE NEWSPAPER. 'THE WORLD'S HAIRDRESSERS AT YOUR BECK AND CALL AND YOUR HAIR LOOKS LIKE A COTTAGE LOAF! AND PERSONALITY MINUS! NO WONDER DIANA LEFT THEM ALL FOR DEAD'. BUCKINGHAM PALACE HAS DECLINED TO COMMENT.
